About

Jennifer Chaplin was born in Cape Town, South Africa, during the flower power 60’s, immersed in a world of natural beauty and energy, benefiting from an entire childhood of art and crafts classes in a multitude of techniques including enameling, leather moulding, wood burning, mosaic and batik.

Later came the finer arts and even a little graphic design in screen printing and etching. Today she freely experiments with applications and combinations driven chiefly by the unique story of the subject.

In Cape Town she was fortunate to attend the Ruth Prowse School of Art, Frank Joubert Art Centre, and Mill Street Natural Learning Academy under the multi-talented Annalise Brink.

Spreading her wings to London in 2000, Jennifer embarked on a new discovery: Europe and its vast art treasures. Museum after museum set in an entirely different physical landscape, inspired a renewed desire to put pencil to paper – brush to canvas. Happily the joy of more classes: this time at the Prince’s Drawing Trust and Tate Modern, and exhibitions and stalls at Windsor en-plein Air, Richmond Riverside Gallery, Orleans House Christmas Weekend, Putney Pier Market.

Her English palette is bold but sensitive. Her aim is to extract the essence of the African landscape in all its vibrancy and natural design and offer it to Europe.
